How to checkout on behalf of your customers(Written)
Sometimes customers prefer ordering through Instagram DMs or WhatsApp instead of shopping directly from your website. And honestly? That’s completely fine. A sale is still a sale 💰The important thing is making sure the order still goes through your Uzanga website so that:
- All your orders stay organized in one place
- Shipping and fulfillment stay streamlined
- Customer details are properly captured
- You avoid losing track of DM orders
Here’s how to check out on behalf of your customer.
Step 1: Visit Your Website and Add Products to Cart
Open your website and add the products your customer wants to buy into the cart. You’re basically shopping on behalf of the customer. For example:
- Add the requested products
- Adjust quantities if needed
- Proceed to checkout
Step 2: Enter the Customer's Details
On the checkout page, ask the customer for their:
- Email address
- Phone number
- First and last name
Then enter those details into the checkout form.
This ensures the order is properly attached to the correct customer.
Step 3: Select the Delivery Method
Choose the delivery or pickup option the customer wants. This process works exactly the same way as a normal website checkout.
Step 4: Place the Order
Once all the customer information is filled in review and place the order. The system will then take you to the payment page.
Step 5: Send the payment Link to the Customer
if the customer isn't ready to pay immediately, copy the payment link and send it to the customer through WhatsApp, Instagram, SMS, or wherever you’re chatting. You can tell them something like: "Use this link to complete your payment"
Important:
The payment link expires after a short period of time, usually around 10 to 15 minutes. If it expires, you may need to generate a new checkout session.
Step 6: Let the Customer Pay Using Their Preferred Method
The customer can then complete payment using M-Pesa or Card. Once payment is completed, the order will automatically appear in your system like any normal website order.
Why This Is Better Than Taking Orders Fully in DMs
Selling entirely through DMs can become chaotic very quickly.
You may:
- Forget orders
- Miss payments
- Lose customer details
- Struggle to reconcile sales later
By checking out on behalf of the customer through your website, you still get all the operational benefits of e-commerce while serving customers the way they’re comfortable shopping. Everything stays centralized and organized.
Final Tip
Even if the conversation starts on Instagram or Whatsapp, try to make sure the final order still passes through your website. That way, your business grows with systems, not scattered screenshots and buried chats.
